“Over the last two decades, the Mill Creek has made a remarkable ecological resurgence,” said Tri-State Trails Executive Director Wade Johnston. “The Triangle Trail effort aims to build on the Mill Creek’s comeback story by enhancing the urban waterway with a cohesive multi-use trail network. The coalition we’ve galvanized envisions the Triangle Trail will serve as an equitable transportation solution and recreational amenity that connects nearly 200,000 residents to local business districts, regional attractions, and major greenspaces like Sharon Woods, Glenwood Gardens, Winton Woods, and the CROWN urban trail loop.”

The project team for the feasibility study has developed an initial set of routes and alternatives, complete with preliminary engineering cost estimates, for what would become the Mill Creek Triangle Trail network. The information will be presented to the public at the May 1 open house. The same information is covered in a Virtual Open House, accessible at www.tristatetrails.org/millcreektriangle.

About the Mill Creek Triangle Trail

The Mill Creek Triangle Trail is a vision for a 40+-mile regional trail network in central and northern Hamilton County, throughout the Mill Creek watershed. The concept for the Mill Creek Triangle Trail dates back to Tri-State Trails’ 2014 Regional Trails Plan. Through the grassroots Connecting Active Communities Coalition led by Evendale resident Michele Gottschlich, project partners have been convening since 2016 to advance various sections of the trail network.

To date, approximately 18.5 miles of the network have been constructed. An additional 4.3 miles of the network are funded to be constructed in the near future. Once completed, the Mill Creek Triangle Trail will connect a dozen Hamilton County communities, including: Sharonville, Evendale, Reading, Lockland, Arlington Heights, Cincinnati, Glendale, Woodlawn, Wyoming, Lincoln Heights, Springfield Township and Greenhills.

Throughout 2023, Tri-State Trails raised the funds from project partners to perform the feasibility study for the Mill Creek Triangle Trail, which commenced planning last October. The feasibility study will recommend a preferred trail alignment and preliminary engineering cost estimates that can be used to apply for grants to build the trail in sections. Project partners include: Great Parks, Mill Creek Alliance, Hamilton County Transportation Improvement District, Hamilton County Regional Planning Commission, Ohio Department of Transportation (District 8), City of Sharonville, Village of Evendale, City of Reading, Village of Glendale, Village of Woodlawn, City of Wyoming, Village of Lincoln Heights, Village of Arlington Heights, Village of Lockland, Springfield Township, City of Blue Ash, First Suburbs Consortium of Southwest Ohio, Millcreek Valley Conservancy District, Connecting Active Communities Coalition, and Wyoming Cycling Foundation.
