The Low-Stress Bike Map Just Got More Inclusive

Thursday, June 12, 2025 by Caitlin Sparks

The fifth edition of the Low-Stress Bike Map is here—and for the first time, it’s available in French and Spanish.

This update marks an important step toward making biking more accessible across Greater Cincinnati, especially for our immigrant and non-English-speaking neighbors. We began creating this map in 2021 to fill a critical gap in wayfinding for people on bikes. Many riders told us they wanted to bike more but didn’t know which routes felt safe. Our first map was designed to solve that problem, and each new edition builds on that foundation.

The Low-Stress Bike Map highlights streets with slower traffic, better bike infrastructure, and an overall less stressful riding experience. It also shows off our growing trail network—places where people of all ages and abilities can ride comfortably. And it’s more than just lines on a page. Inside, you’ll find:

  • Trail etiquette and safety tips
  • Guidance for riding with traffic and connecting to on-road bike infrastructure
  • Details on regional trails like the Great Miami River Trail, Dearborn Trail, and more

This year’s biggest improvement—translation into French and Spanish—was inspired by community leaders like Vincent Wilson, a cycling advocate, cargo bike enthusiast, and English as a Second Language teacher in Lockland. Vincent noticed that many of his students, recent immigrants from Mauritania, lacked reliable transportation. In response, he created a makeshift bike shop, offering repairs and even bikes to those in need. Read more about Vincent’s inspiring work.

Stories like these remind us that access to mobility is essential, and language should never be a barrier to it. We hope this updated map helps even more people ride confidently and comfortably.

The printed map is free and available at libraries, bike shops, and community hubs. The digital version offers even more, with interactive layers showing Red Bike stations, restrooms, bike parking, water fountains, and other helpful amenities. Explore it online here.

Each edition of the Low-Stress Bike Map brings us closer to a region where biking is safer and more welcoming for everyone, no matter their language, background, or comfort level on a bike. Let us know how you’re using the map, and contact us if you’d like a stack for your business or community.
