Tri-State Trails named a GOLD Award Level Bicycle Friendly Business by the League of American Bicyclists

Tuesday, September 17, 2024 by Caitlin Sparks

Today, the League of American Bicyclists recognized Tri-State Trails with a GOLD Level Bicycle Friendly Business (BFB) award, placing Tri-State Trails alongside more than 1,300 businesses across the country contributing to the movement to build a more Bicycle-Friendly America for everyone.

“We’re thrilled to recognize this round of new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Businesses that are not just supporting cycling but are actively weaving it into the fabric of their communities,” said Bill Nesper, Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists. “When businesses invest in better biking, they invest in people—employees, customers, and community members alike. Tri-State Trails is a shining example of how businesses can lead by example, making biking more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”

Tri-State Trails joins a total of 1,358 current BFBs nationwide, including everything from government agencies, Fortune 500 companies, museums, hospitality establishments, bike shops, and other employers, all united in a commitment to transform American workplaces to be more welcoming to both customers and employees who bike. The Bicycle Friendly Business Award recognizes an organization’s contributions in shifting up and accelerating the movement to build a Bicycle Friendly America for everyone.

“As an advocacy organization expanding our region’s trail and bikeway network, Tri-State Trails is proud to receive GOLD-level Bicycle Friendly Business status from the League of American Bicyclists. This recognition reflects our longstanding commitment to leading by example when it comes to promoting a bicycle-friendly workplace culture. By biking to work on a regular basis, I personally try to show others that bicycling is an accessible, healthy, and safe way to get around,” said Wade Johnston, Executive Director of Tri-State Trails.

“At the heart of every new and renewing Bicycle Friendly Business is a commitment to something greater—community, sustainability, and well-being, to name a few. We’re proud to celebrate Tri-State Trails for their ongoing efforts to champion cycling both within their workplace and in the world around them,” said Bill Nesper, Executive Director of the League of American Bicyclists.

As part of the BFB network, Tri-State Trails will have access to a variety of tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more welcoming to people who bike. When employees bike, great things happen like a decreased carbon footprint, reduced healthcare costs, connection to the community, and a fun and healthy work culture.
