Tour de CROWN: A Day of Cycling, Community, and Celebration

Thursday, August 24, 2023 by Caitlin Sparks

COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP, OHIO – Cyclists of all skill levels are gearing up for a momentous event as the first-ever Tour de CROWN bike ride takes center stage at Fifty West Brewing Company on Saturday, August 26. Presented by Great Parks and organized by Tri-State Trails, this ride promises an unforgettable experience by showcasing both existing and planned trail within the CROWN’s expanding biking and walking network.

Three distance options will start and end at Fifty West Brewing Company, right off the Little Miami Scenic Trail. The rides will depart between 7:00 and 8:00 AM, with an impressive turnout of over 350 individuals who have signed up to be part of this inaugural event.

Following the ride, the public is invited to visit Fifty West Brewing Company for the Tour de CROWN Expo from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. With more than twenty trail organizations, local cycling groups, and outdoor programs participating, the Expo aims to ignite the spirit of adventure and exploration within the Cincinnati community.

“The Tour de CROWN is more than just a cycling event; it’s a chance for our community to come together, celebrate our progress on developing our urban trail network, and promote healthy, active lifestyles,” said Wade Johnston, Executive Director of Tri-State Trails. “The overwhelmingly positive response we’ve received for this inaugural ride is a testament to the demand there is for building more trails and bikeways in our region.”

The ride will bring an influx of cyclists to sections of popular trails such as the Little Miami Scenic Trail, Lunken Trail, Ohio River Trail, Mill Creek Greenway, and Wasson Way. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants, Columbia Township and the Village of Mariemont will temporarily close the southern eastbound lane of US 50 / Wooster Pike from Plainville Road to Newtown Road allowing riders to traverse the final stretch of the ride where the CROWN is not yet complete. The lane closure will be in effect from approximately 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
