It’s time for a new bike map

Friday, February 5, 2021 by Wade Johnston

Tri-State Trails wants your help to identify barriers to bicycling for everyday people in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky.

It’s been far too long since we had an updated bicycle map for the region. So, we’re ramping up to create a new–and improved–map available for anyone who wants to ride their bike without feeling too stressed out.

“Far too often, we hear from would-be riders that they’re scared to ride their bike in traffic, or that they don’t know what streets to ride on,” said Wade Johnston, the Director of Tri-State Trails. The most recent available bike map for the urban core dates back to 2014. Tri-State Trails’ new low-stress bike map will identify a network of comfortable neighborhood streets to encourage new riders to try bicycling more for transportation.

“We don’t just want feedback from die-hard bicyclists, although their expertise will certainly help shape routes we showcase in this map. We really want to hear from people who enjoy biking for recreation and might consider biking for transportation if they felt safer,” said Johnston.

Building a better bike map starts with getting the honest feedback of everyday people in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. While this map will focus on on-street bicycling, it will also illustrate connections to trail infrastructure.

“You shouldn’t need to feel like you’re taking your life into your own hands when you get on a bike. While we have a lot of work to do to connect our biking infrastructure in the region, there are plenty of routes that you can choose to enjoy a more comfortable bike ride.”

Give us your feedback here and help create a better bicycling experience for everyone.
