In memory of Don Burrell

Thursday, February 24, 2022 by Wade Johnston

Don Burrell was a pioneer for active transportation in Cincinnati. For years, Don served as the Bicycle/Pedestrian Coordinator at OKI Regional Council of Governments and was involved in countless projects that have improved conditions for people walking and biking around Greater Cincinnati. Following his retirement, Don stayed involved in Tri-State Trails and the bicycling community, serving as the state coordinator for the American Discovery Trail for several years. Don was an avid commuter and recreational cyclist, logging thousands of miles annually. In 1991, he rode 4,200 on a solo bike tour from Portland, Oregon to Portland, Maine (before GPS, he would proudly note), and in 2018, he accomplished one of his life “bucket list” items of cycling 100,000 miles.

Don, the progress we are making today has your fingerprints all over it. You will be missed by many in this community.
