2:1 Matching Grant Now through December 31

Friday, October 30, 2020 by Wade Johnston

Last week, Tri-State Trails gathered for our annual meeting. It wasn’t our usual beer and cheese-fueled festivities due to the global pandemic. While we met on Zoom, we continued to build the community that powers our work to build a stronger trail and bikeway network that is accessible and equitable. It has been a tough year, but we’ve been able to accomplish so much because of folks like you. Here are some of the highlights:

The pandemic has upended our normal lives, but it has fueled a renaissance in outdoor recreation. Trail usage is up 35-65% in 2020 from at four of the five trails we monitor.

Almost 41 miles of trails and bikeways have been constructed this year, and we’re expecting another ten miles next year! We work hand-in-hand with communities to coordinate funding, engage with the public about bicycling, and provide technical assistance.

We doubled our staff and are working to provide even more assistance to local communities who want to build and expand their trail networks.

We’re grateful for the Devou Good Foundation’s leadership to install 600 new bicycle parking racks in Northern Kentucky this year, and 1,000 in Cincinnati over the next two years. We’re installing bicycle repair stations around the region and have launched a Gear Donation Grant program where local groups can request bike commuting essentials such as lights, locks, helmets—and more—to help expand access to biking across the region.

We formed the CROWN partnership between Wasson Way and Ohio River Way, launched a capital campaign to connect communities across the region, and secured a $3.76 million grant from OKI for Wasson Way.

Any of this would be cause for celebration as an organization. But we’re particularly proud of launching our Active Transportation Policy Platform that centers equity in our work.

We’re able to do this work because of you.

Please consider making an investment in our work that’ll be tripled thanks to a generous 2:1 matching grant from the Devou Good Foundation, now through December 31. Let’s keep building a better, more inclusive, more pedal-powered community together.
